Tessellations - Escher Envy

We are learning to design and create tessellations to explore transformations.
I used 'paint' to paint a tessellation as instructed in an activity called 'Escher Envy'.
I designed and created the above tessellating pattern.

This is the procedure

  • I opened up the computer tool paint
  • Then I created a parallelogram
  • Next I created a pattern on the top the parallelogram and repeated it on the bottom
  • Same as the sides
  • I then erased the original parallelogram and that left me with my pattern
  • I copied my pattern across the canvas of paint until I ended up with my first tessellation

Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis means 'putting together with light'. It is the process of a plant combining co2 carbon dioxide and water to make oxygen.  But they first absorb the sun's light energy through it's stomata.

The Test

Silence is one word to describe this movie. The movie was silent but funny, it was funny because of the facials used and it's actors. The movie I am talking about is 'The Test'. A paper ball was thrown then all the mayhem just started. The teacher was very oblivious to this as he was busy typing away on his net book.

This movie was made by room 18 at Point England School

Gamex Zone

I sat frustrated and to be honest angry about missing out the amazing fantastic opportunity of a lifetime but instead I was at home doing nothing while missing out on the Gamex  Zone opening. It is said to be the coolest and best arcade in the region.

This was the worst day for my parent to go to the golf convention, now I have to go and look after my brother and dog. My parents are seriously into golf if they could, they would sell me for front row seats at a Tiger Woods game. F
The Gamex Zone was in a dogs allowed mall, I know it might sound weird but most things are weird here in Massachusetts. If I could get home before nine I could probably sneak out with Tom and Max (the dog). My parents were at this golf convention thing I don’t know but they seem to be really into it. They wouldn’t be here for at least an hour knowing my parents.

I left the house with Tom and Max it took me a couple of minutes to get ready and walk to the mall. Then I saw the ribbon being cut then bam! I woke up daydreaming slobbering over my desk humiliating myself in front of second period history class. I must of dreamt of the Gamex Zone opening today, oh man so dumb.

Observation of the Weta

Plus Minus and Interesting Facts about the Cave Weta.
I have used this to write a report to inform others.

PlusMinusInteresting
Cave Weta are probably more scared of you than you are scared of them

There are over fifty species of cave weta.

Cave Weta have antennae which are four times as long as it’s own body.

Using this they find their way through the darkness.
Tuatara and Weka eat Cave Weta. When scared the weta jumps.

It can jump up to two meters.

For us it would be like sixteen cars!

Cave weta can also be found in leaf litter and rotten logs.

They are also deaf and
cannot make sounds.

Cave Weta belong to a group called ‘Rhaphidophoridae’ which also include some crickets. There are over fifty species of Cave Weta. Other than in a cave, a Cave Weta can also be found in leaf litter and rotten logs and around New Zealand. Common predators of the Weta are the Tuatara and Weka.
A Weta has six legs a thorax, abdomen and head. In it’s head are two very long antennae which measure up to four times as the weta’s own body. Using this they find their way around in the dark.  A weta is a gentle, non - aggressive insect and is probably much more scared of you than you are of it. When frightened a weta jumps, and believe it or not weta can jump up to two metres. For us humans it would be like jumping sixteen cars imagine that!

Just a Bad Day

Every Saturday my friends and I hang out at the mall and everything usually goes fine... but this time was the exception!

We were at the mall just looking at the new sets of the Air Jordans, the arcade and food court just the usual (well for us anyway). For some reason I felt a rumbling vibration that would make teeth chatter and leave you feeling uneasy, just BRRRRR weird. I had felt it since we left to go to the food court, but I didn’t pay attention to it because I thought it may have just been an underground construction, my mistake.

We left the mall and still I felt the vibrations but powered 120% much stronger. I fell on my back, oddly slanted on a leathery - like object. A crowd then came to gather in front of the mall. My friends stepped back, people began screaming and fainting, sirens whooping in every direction. it was hectic! CRRRRRRR! The noise was so loud I would’ve gladly ripped my ears off.

Suddenly everything was quiet and all around I saw faces in awe. I looked back and saw four huge legs. When I looked up I saw two scythe like hands sharper than any knife. But then again, it wasn’t as scary as it’s glaring eyes looking at me. The sight of it almost scared me to death. It’s head kept twitching and it’s eyes were too, like it was examining me. It must have been thinking that not just me but the whole human race was it’s prey. The thought of human race being extinguished just made me shiver. I began running, I saw my friends and shouted out a warning, we ran so fast I think we could have beaten a stock car. But with one giant leap the grasshopper  had caught up to us, I fainted...

Survival

Hard in real life and harder in the game I was playing.
I was at my friend’s house,  his name is Glenn and he’s a really fun guy to hang out with once you get to know him. I usually go to his house in my spare time so we can play the best game in the world.  I know it might seem like an exaggeration, but that’s how cool the game is to me.I think the game is the second to latest one in its series.   It is ‘Call Of Duty MW3 ‘ (short for Modern Warfare 3).
Most of the time we play ‘Survival’, it’s a game mode where you practically have to try to survive. The first 9 levels are filled with attack dogs ,suiciders, Russians ( I think but practically soldiers) and an attack helicopter (they’re kind of hard if you don’t have a machine gun ) but when you get to level 10 then it gets harder.  When it gets hard there always has to be a Juggernaut, it is a fully armoured person equipped with an assault rifle called a M60E4 and is extremely hard to kill but he’s not immortal. Because my friend and I are pro’s so we don’t die easily although our high score is level 27 I still think we're pro’s and next time I think we can beat level 27.

Cultural Festival 2012

One minute one thing, one minute another it was so hectic I couldn't even hear myself thinking.

I was late and I was thinking like the world was gonna end. First of all I should say that this was TOTALLY not my fault (wait ... maybe). As soon as the car stopped I burst through the open door and bolted into the room while thinking ' oh man, oh man I am so late! Ahhh )'. As soon as I came in Reitz said ' wow Aaron you are so early' and I definitely and truly knew that I was late. After I got changed we marched into the hall almost like a organised battle troop. We all did according to plan (well mostly). All the groups passed, except our group the European group. My feet were shaking even before I got on the stage. With feet trembling, hands quivering and a handful of doubt I knew that I would  look like a total fool in front of what looked like thousands of people. With disbelief I walked into the stage and started dancing and in thirty seconds there were no more doubt in me and all I cared about was having fun. Our dance ended in what felt like seconds and it was all hectic again people began pushing and squirming to get out. After many huffing and puffing I went home and had an undisturbed sleep.

Technicraft - Sewing (First Day)

We followed Miss Scott down the hallway and into the room where we would spend 2 hours, once a week for five weeks sowing.  Before my lessons began sowing was always a mystery to me but after five weeks I know and understand a lot more about it.
I was both excited and apprehensive about sewing.  But I was As I was eager to get started.  I knew our teacher Mrs Scott from our cooking lessons so knowing her helped me feel a little better but then an unknown figure entered the sewing room.
At first I thought that she was just talking to Miss Scott for well something (the way teachers do sometimes) but to my surprise she was going to help us sow this term. The lady who stood standing in front of the class was Miss Barrow, the sowing teacher of Edgewater College. After Miss Scott introduced us to her (reverse) we organised ourselves into partners (my partner was Jose) and sat down opposite ‘Bernina’ our so called new best friend.
We uncovered her, she was not very big but I figured she was probably ten years plus. Glancing around the room I estimated she had 12 duplicate sisters and 4 identical brothers. ‘Bernina’ was our sewing machine. Sarcastically I greeted ‘Bernina’ wondering if she would magically respond, but I guess I was just daydreaming. We practiced sewing patterns without the thread to get used to maneuvering the fabric ( but just paper at that time). A couple of minutes later students poured into the room and we had to pack up as fast as light. Later we were in the hallway (again) but now waiting in a line to the kitchen. In the kitchen we did an activity about sewing (I forgot about what specifically) and went back to school.

Learn To Swim / Wordle

We are learning to use the features of Explanation writing to inform and persuade our audience.

Learn to Swim
Swimming is essential in many ways not just for exercise but it will also help our New Zealand citizens and tourists to be safe in the water. I believe this because the rate of children drowning is increasing. One reason for this is because of the lack of the swimming that many children do.  This reduces the opportunity for these essential skills to develop. This also means that children and in some cases adults too, do not learn how to keep safe in the water. People underestimate what water can do to them at a beach or at a pool, while many think it is all about splashing and diving and having fun, water can be dangerous if you don’t know how to swim or what to do it you get into trouble. Swimming is a very good exercise for your lungs.  Learning to  swim and water safety skills can help you survive and if one day you fell into the water.  Would you know what would to do? If you were at the beach and got into trouble, would you know how to signal for help to alert the lifeguards.

In conclusion swimming is an important and fun thing you do in life not just for physical benefits but also to help you keep safe in water’ because once you lose your life you can’t take it back so Learn to Swim.  It will not only help save your life, but the skills you learn could also save the life of another person.  Learn to Swim!

Ice Age 4 Continental Drift

It was Wednesday, the second week of the holidays and I had everything planned out for the day.

We were set and ready to go to the movies; I had checked the timetable for the Amazing Spider Man, it was at 8.00pm so after we ate my dad drove us to Hoyts cinemas at Sylvia Park.  Unfortunately when we got there disaster struck! Several other Spiderman fans (and I don’t mean just a few) had decided to go at the same time and consequently; The Amazing Spider Man was sold out. My mind went blank…. What now? I thought to myself.  My dad approached counter and asked the cashier if there were any other available movies, for kids in general.  Eager to help he enthusiastically replied “Um… well we have ‘Ice Age 4’, would you like to see it?”   “Ok”, we replied and eagerly grabbed the tickets as we chatted and made our way to cinema 7.

The 20th Century logo covered the screen briefly and then vanished. The light disappeared and the room turned black, pitch black. A few blinks later Scrat a squirrel  and the accursed acorn showed up, and once again Scat’s foolishness had a big effect on Manny and the herd. The herd was made up of a mammoth known as  Manny,  (very big and stubborn) Sid a very entertaining, stupid or perhaps clueless abandoned sloth his grandma  - Gramma and Diego the cunning, swift and ferocious saber tooth.

Unfortunately Manny and the herd had become separated from Ely his wife and Peaches his teenage daughter a newfound character. Their separation was caused by Manny and the herd being tapped and drifting away on an iceberg. Their quest is to find a way back to Manny’s family. On the way they encounter Captain Gutt and his crew, who causes mischief and all kinds of trouble. Shira a sabre tooth is second in command and develops a liking to Diego, Manny’s friend. In the end Manny is reunited with his family.

My family and I waited till the end before getting up to leave to avoid being squashed and supposedly getting separated in the enormous crowd pushing and squirming to get out.  A good movie like that, (I thought to myself)  deserves to be followed by a good nights rest

Pegasus

We are learning to identify and discuss features of the Constellations in the Southern Hemisphere.

I have chosen the constellation Pegasus because I have always wanted to know more about this winged horse and about constellations.

The constellation Pegasus resembles the white winged horse of Greek mythology. It is hard to shape out the horses body because from where we are ( the Southern Hemisphere) the horses body is the other way around.
You can see this constellation in the springtime or the late winter in the Southern hemisphere but in the Northern hemisphere you can see it at the end of summer and through autumn. The Pegasus was named by the astronomer Claudius Ptolemy in the 2nd century like the other forty-seven other constellations he named so in all he named forty-eight. The story of the creation and adventure of Pegasus begins when Perseus battles the snake headed Medusa. When Perseus beheaded Medusa, drops of her blood fell into the sea. This blood then mixed with sea foam and thus Pegasus was born.
