Three Wordles

The signifance of these Wordles represent that by using our School Charism it affect's the choices we make and some of those choices can also make us mediators and give us the choice to solve the problem verbally or physically.

One way to influence using positive strategies is to use a positive attitude yourself. In such an environment whether in a class in the playground all students regardless of their differences, have the right to share their ideas and have the same amount of respect that all students should have and have no disadvantages.

Using this we can communicate with others showing respect.St Patrick's school, is often referred to as a 'Cool School'. We are a 'Cool School' because we treat others fairly and have people in our school that are successful, mature and responsible enough to work their hardest and be the best they can. These practises continue to be a model for all others irrespective of their age. A key factor then continues these practices is due to the Peer Mediators who patrol our school grounds at lunch times making it safe.

These mediators help solve problems that our juniors have and although rare, the seniors too. One of the key skills they use is impartiality. Sometimes we may think that rules can disadvantage us. If you think about it,  the purpose behind having rules is  to help keep us safe. Rules have consequences which are triggered by breaking these rules. Mediation is the process in which mediators help others to solve problems and to help them to figure out what to do next time.

The mediators are the people who help the people with the problem reach an agreement. The goal of the mediation program is to help the children gaining an understanding of the causes of conflict, raise awareness of their own needs and the needs of others, empower children by teaching processes and skills that will help them to resolve conflict that satisfies both parties, improve relationships and make a positive contribution to classroom environments, which support successful academic learning.

My Life As A Penguin

One day I’m a fully fledged human now when I wake up something incredible yet scary at the same time has happened to me ...  me ordinary little Tomie.

As a child I was so interested in arctic animals and on occasion some hot - blooded creatures too.  My dad was an explorer and some people even compared him to Indiana Jones.  This is possibly linked to the fact that many of his adventures were so extreme.  My eyes would pop out if I missed a single bit of action that he’d done - yes my dad the Adventurer Thomas Greene. My mom named me after my dad, she told me she always hoped that I would be as daring and awesome as my dad.

Back to the Present
I feel all fuzzy and my bones felt weak and crumbly at the same time.  I looked at myself but ended up poking myself with my newly found beak. Ouch that hurt! In my time of pain I see a blinding light and blackout.

I awoke only to find that I had been knocked out unconscious and  blinded by a light and then captured.  As I tried to regain a sense of my surroundings, I wondered what kind of sinister people would capture a little bo.... penguin like me. I was surrounded in a dusty hay - made potato bag.  It was hard to breathe as a penguin but this was made even harder as dust particles floated  around me maybe perhaps this breathing difficulty was heightened by my strong sense of smell.

I was determined to get out of my ‘cage’, I used my sharp and flawless beak to try and peck my  way out, and It was working I could see light slowly coming from the hole.  It was hard adjusting to the light because my eyes had been shut for goodness knows how long, it could have been  minutes, hours or even days! Days? I didn’t know, it was hard keeping time asleep.
When I got out I ended up in the back of a truck surrounded by a drowsy guard and baker dozens of more potato bags. Since I was in one of those, I’m guessing there were more penguins in the others.  I tried to get them out too but most of them were still unconscious. Suddenly the heavy titanium hard door of what I think is the truck opened. The temperature dropped dramatically and the new penguin side of me felt free, ready to slide down snowy mountains and swim in the ocean chasing fish however, it was at this point that I remembered I was not a penguin,  I was human! I snapped out of my chilly daydream and found myself Tomie an ordinary little boy surrounded in piles and piles of snow.

Engineering - The Frog

Technicraft 2013 began with the topic Electronical Engineering. It was fun being open to new and past experiences. I had done a bit of electronical work with my dad a couple of times. Some of the tasks were similar to those that our teacher Mr Clark, introduced us to. Our very first project was called, ‘Project Freida the Frog’. The expectation was that by the end of soldering the circuits and putting the resistors and memory wire into the right places,  the Freida would light up every time the memory wire was moved or touched.

Every week we gained more knowledge and progressed more with Freida. On the third week almost everybody was on to soldering their circuits with only a few exceptions. During these lessons, we also learned about how to strip wires and how to ‘swim’ on the right side of the current, but I guess I didn't pay much attention and by doing that I unfortunately busted Frieda's eyes, well not her real eyes but the LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).

When I started soldering I was pretty confident that I was doing the right thing and I would have bet my soul on it!  Lots of perseverance paid off and in the end it worked but unfortunately  a couple of moments later, the excitement and joy vanished when I realised that my very first project, Freida had short circuited.

I was naturally disappointed. Not listening had lead to disaster, I had killed my frog but viewing and thinking as an optimist, I recognise that making mistakes is also part of learning and yes I now know to listen so next time I can do better.

My History in 24 Hours

Our task was to record 24 hours of our learning and outside school life and this was the outcome of that task.
